US Sandwich: Jambon-Beurre Near Sangwangsimni, Seoul

Hey everyone! Today Seoul hit over 37°C, but I decided to get some exercise anyway and walked along Cheonggyecheon stream from home to US Sandwich (어스샌드위치), Wangsimni Branch, right by Exit 2 of Sangwangsimni Station on Line 2. Walking in that heat sounds rough, but the shade along the stream actually made it more manageable than I expected.

A Quick Warning About Station Names in the Wangsimni Area

This area has three similarly named stations — Wangsimni Station, Sangwangsimni Station, and Hawangsimni Station. The restaurant we’re covering today is right outside Exit 2 of Sangwangsimni Station specifically, so make sure you search for “Sangwangsimni” on your subway app. Mix up the three, and you could end up walking a lot farther than planned.

The Restaurant

Both the exterior and interior were noticeably clean. Red tile and wood-toned furniture give the space a bright, calm feel. Ordering is done through a kiosk, which supports English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, so I had no trouble ordering even without needing to read Korean. Great news if you’re visiting from Japan and want a stress-free ordering experience.

What We Ordered

This time we ordered the triple jambon-beurre sandwich and an iced Americano. Jambon-beurre is a simple French sandwich made with ham and butter, but the version here stood out for its generously thick-cut ham. The bread had a black, sesame-flecked baguette-like texture, combining a nice aroma with the saltiness of the ham and the richness of the butter. Pairing it with an iced Americano on a scorching day was an absolutely perfect combo.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

Multilingual kiosk (English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean) makes ordering easy for foreign visitors
Clean interior, comfortable even on a hot day
Great access — right outside Exit 2 of Sangwangsimni Station

Cons:

The bread is a bit thick relative to the ham, so the plain bread portions can feel slightly dry
Walking there on a scorching day is genuinely tiring (not the restaurant’s fault, but taking the subway is recommended in summer)
