The Bakers Table — German Soup and Fresh Bread Near Gyeongridan-gil

Not every meal in Seoul has to be Korean, and this is the ideal place to prove it. Tucked just off Gyeongridan-gil in Itaewon, The Bakers Table serves the kind of unfussy European comfort food you don’t expect to stumble across in the middle of the city — crusty house bread, thick European-style soups, and sandwiches built properly, not as an afterthought.
Start with the bread and olive oil while you look at the menu. It’s dense, well-crusted, scored into sections for pulling apart at the table, and good enough that you’ll be tempted to fill up on it before the soup even arrives. The tomato soup comes out smooth and lightly herbed, a couple of croutons floating on top — comforting in the way tomato soup is supposed to be but rarely is. The mushroom soup is quieter and earthier, the kind of bowl you want on a grey, damp afternoon, which in Seoul is most afternoons. If you want something more substantial, the sandwich holds its own — toasted bread, layers of greens, stacked tall enough that you’ll need both hands and a napkin, served with a small cup of coleslaw on the side.
What makes this place genuinely easy for visitors is the language. Most of the staff are foreign, English ordering is completely normal here, and there’s a kiosk if you’d rather point and tap than talk. For anyone who’s been quietly dreading having to order in Korean, this is one of the more relaxed spots in the city to just sit down and eat.
One practical note before you go: parking is tight, and there isn’t much space right at the restaurant itself. Plan on using a nearby public parking lot, or just take public transit — Itaewon is well connected either way, and walking up through Gyeongridan-gil is honestly part of the experience.
If Korean food has been the whole trip so far, this is a good place to take a breath. Good bread, good soup, and a menu you can actually read.
